The Independent Distribution Frame Room is an environmentally controlled area that interconnects and manages the IT and/or telecommunications wiring between an MDF and workstation devices. It’s also where local cables, called jumpers or patch cords, are used on patch panels to cross-connect different cables. IDF Rooms connect individual computers, laptops, and printers on each floor or section to source servers located back in the MDF Room. Home run cabling includes the cable, connectors, patch panels, and patch cords in the IDF room.
